Hi!
I’m Kat

I'm Kat, an Australian actor, audiobook narrator and dialect coach based in Cincinnati, Ohio.

the work that excites me

Books that surprise me are my favourite to record: a metaphor I didn't see coming, a narrator who's a mess (on purpose), a joke landing right next to the heartbreak. I love first-person voices, especially snarky, wounded characters who use humour as armour. I get genuinely excited by a puzzle, whether that's no punctuation, unnamed characters, or working out exactly which corner of the UK your character grew up in. As a neurodivergent (ADHD), queer, non-binary (she/they pronouns) actor, I bring empathy and delight to roles that are aligned with my experience. I'm also a triplet, and would love to voice more stories about sisterhood and the strange reality of being a multiple.

Brainy sci-fi, queer and feminist fantasy, rich literary fiction and chatty nonfiction are where I'm happiest. I narrate YA, queer fiction, literary fiction, dramedy and sci-fi.

what i do

  • Audiobook narration. Complex, funny, character-driven books, with the accents done properly. Hear the demos on the Voice Over page.

  • Dialect and production coaching for theatre. Recent credits include Emilia and Wonderful Town at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), Chancers with Dayton Theatre Guild, and Over the River and Through the Woods with Village Players.

  • Private coaching for actors. Accents, character voice and verse, one-on-one or in small workshops.

  • Corporate presence training and gender-affirming voice coaching.

a little more about me

I was born in Sydney, grew up near Wollongong, and have lived in Australia, the US and the UK. As an Australian-American dual citizen I've always felt a bit like an outsider, which is probably why I'm drawn to stories about misfits and people looking for home. I'm a neurodivergent, queer, non-binary artist (she/they), a triplet (yes, really), and Co-chair of Academy Programming for QueerVox.

I think of voice as dramaturgy. A person’s voice is their biography. Where someone grew up, who they're performing for and what they're hiding all show up in how they sound. Scottish criminals, WWII land girls, fantasy princesses: I love working out where a character comes from and then making it audible.
